1981 25 h.p. Mercury

I don't anything about boat motors, and would appreciate some help with a motor problem.<br />My motor has been running fine up untill now, the motor has refused to start, I have checked for fire on both plugs and get nothing. <br />If anyone has an idea of whats going I'm all ears. Thank You!!

Hi again, Podunk. Sounds to me like you have a failed powerpak in the ignition, but I'm not a Mercspert. One will be along pretty soon.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />JB

Is this a remote control , or tiller handle steer unit?

I was asked if the 25 h.p. motor has a tiller handle unit......yes it does

O.K..Look at where the kill switch is on this engine.End of tiller handle?On the lower motor cover? Might be two.on this vintage not sure but I believe you have only one kill switch. Anyway follow the wiring from one or both and then simply unplug them from the bullet connectors they are plgged into.This would normally be a black/yellow wire but this engine is about the time BIA started getting involved so no standardised wiring or I COULD be more definte from memory on wiring color code.Disconnecting those wires and then acheiving spark tells you that your kill switches are causing your problem.
