1980 V8 Merc 260 runs but stalls at idle

I just replaced my lower unit last year and put the boat in the water this week. It ran fine and the shifting seemed to be okay- fwd and rev.and idling okay
I took it for a 20 minute ride in the open water and it ran great. When I came into my dock to park it, it stalled when I brought it all the way down to idle. It restarts at trottle up around 2000 RPM's but then dies as soon as I bring it down to idle.
What things should I suspect? I'll check the shift interrupt switch and the idle adjustment screw, but besides that what should I check. It runs smooth at high idle so i dont think it's an ignition problem.

Sounds like a Fuel delivery Issue,........

Start with an Inspection of the contents of the Fuel Filter,.........
If there's Water present,....... Changing the Filter Might Fix It.....
If the Filter Doesn't Cure it,.... Move up to the Carb.,+ Look for signs of Water or other Crap........
It sounds like the Idle Circuit might have a Clog..........

Thanks- I thought if it was a fuel delivery issue, it would have problems at higher RPM's also? But I'll replace the fuel filter as It hasnt been done in 3-4 years

You've Probably allowed the Crap to get Into the Carb.,+ the Idle Circuit is Full of Crap............

You're Probably looking at a Carb. Rebuild by Now.............

I'd be surprised as it would have started out by running rough, which it didnt, but I'll let you know
