Hi,

I came across an ad for a 1980 Searay 240, twin 302, low hours, mercruz out-drives, very good condition.

I'm in the Detroit, MI area. This past summer, I was on the water with a jetski and want to travel further and sleep overnight, but don't want to spend a lot of money on something newer. I came across the above ad. What is the top speed for a twin 302 on a 240? The owner is giving me very vague answers. What are some costly problems known with this make to look out for?

Thanks,
Dave

It's an older boat so the usual things to look out for apply... transom, stringers, fuel tanks, floor etc. If it has alpha drives... nothing wrong with them. Avoid TR drives though... parts are hard to find. The engines, being Fords are probably the '888' series... those are 188 hp each so that boat should see high 40's at least on a clean hull.
