hello everyone! my procraft has a charge/run toggle switch and im not sure what it is for. it has two sets of leads going to it sets are numbered 1 and 2. the number 1 set is hooked to my trolling motor battery and everything works but when i flip the switch to the charge position it sends power back through the number 2 leads which are hooked to nothing, they are just taped off. does anyone have any ideas what is going on or what the extra set of wires go to.

all help is much appreciated.. thanx

Sounds like it used to go to an onboard battery charger.

Re: 1980 procraft charge/run switch

That switch enabled the batteries to be charged through the trolling motor socket. To complicate things a little more, some of the older boats used trolling motors that were capable of running on 12 OR 24v. Battery wiring for those motors did not wire the two batteries in series, nor were they wired in parallel. They simply fed a pair of wires to the switch panel that may have had a 12/24 switch as well as a Run/Charge switch. The concept was that the 12/24 switch or a similar switch on the motor itself took the two 12V pairs and did the parallel (12V) or series (24V) switching. The long and short of this is that if you only have one battery, the second pair of wires aren't needed. Tape them off. Leave the switch in the RUN position unless you intend to charge the battery through the trolling motor connector. If you have an onboard charger, you'll never use the charge position. Clear as mud??

Re: 1980 procraft charge/run switch

Mrgixser i have a 1984 procraft 1540 bassboat with the charge run switch and mine is wired so that if you put a charger on one battery for a two battery setup for trolling motor and turn the toggle switch to charge one charger will charge both trolling motor batteries at once.In between charge and run is off.On run you get full 24 volts to trolling motor plug but only get 24 volts to trolling motor if you turn switch on trolling motor foot control to 24 volts Mine is motor guide and is for 12or24 volts if i leave foot switch on 12 volts that is all it gets..The motor is a split phase motor and will run on either.Hope this helps.
