1980 Mercruiser 228 (Chevy 305) - no power steering?

Hello,

I just picked up an old Glastron CVX-18 with a Mercruiser 228 engine. I took it out on the lake today and it didn't seem like the power steering was working at all. It takes a lot of muscle to get the outdrive to turn. Where do I start troubleshooting this?

Most likely need a cable & helm.
Disconnect the drag link from the cable @ the transom. Turn the wheel, it should turn incredably easy.
Don't not replace just the cable. It is probably worn out from the resistance of a worn carn cable. The kits are available for complete replacement.
