This is my first forum...I'm having a problem with my old 1980 50 hp Merc engine. It starts right up on choke and runs great but after about 30 seconds it bogs down and putters along like a 10 horse and goes through gas like the fuel line is leaking! I'm thinking that the choke isn't cutting out. My question is this...mechanically, what tells the choke to cut out? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated! Yhanks

The choke is controlled by an electric solenoid.
When you push the choke button or push the key in it activates as long as the button or key is pushed.

You can check for correct operation by removing the cowl and look at the carbs while you activate the choke button.

The chokes are the brass plates in the picture. They should be horizontal with the choke off for normal running.
