I would appreciate a little help with wiring a kill switch. Seem to have brain freeze today and too many projects going at the same time. I'm mounting an external kill switch on dash and wiring to an 80 model Johnson control box. Have cut and connected the switch to the black and yellow wire but still have fire. Which wire do I need to connect the switch to if not the black and yellow. The factory service manual does not list a kill switch in the circuit.

One wire from the black/yellow wire goes to the kill switch and the other from the kill switch goes to ground.

That's what I was doing until I got confused and stopped because I wasn't .sure whether power going to the cdi would be lost if I diconnected at the key switch and connected the kill switch to the black and yellow and the other side to ground. I don't get on here often but have read a lot of your replies in the past to other posts and kinda thought you'd be one answer my post. Good to have guys like you on here

Thank you sir

On your motor 12 volts from the battery is not used to make the spark.-------That is all done electronically by by the spinning flywheel.

Yes sir that is why I wasn't sure whether to break the black and yellow or the stator feed which I think is the gray. All worked okay as I ran the motor yesterday and the switch works fine. Only one thing I might have forgotten. I disconnected the black/yellow from the key switch, put the kill switch on and ran to ground. Should I have left a wire on the key switch terminal and run to ground as well? Running the motor today and the key switch doesn't shut off.
