I tried to do this before, but was booted off.......
1980 5 HP Honda 4 stroke.
Got it last week, seems to run great in the shop.
Drop it on my boat as a trolling motor.
Have the fuel line plumbed to the spin on filter outlet, pulling fuel @ 19" from the tank, through spin on filter, through in line filter on motor.
Fired it up, start trolling.
Maybe 15 minutes in, it dies???
Pump the primer ball in line, pull out choke, fires right back up????
Maybe 5 minutes later, same thing, do the same, fires.
Run maybe 20 minutes, tried at WOT to see what it can do, (pushed a #1200 boat, 2 adults at 5.5 mph across current), no problems.....
Get to marina, reset mixture and idle speed a bit, ran it, seems OK.......
Could that fuel pump not be able to pull fuel that far through the filters?
(the block is light gray, the fuel pump a darker gray, perhaps it was swapped out)?
A old guy told me I should get a "trolling prop for it?
As he stated, "A BIG ARSE PROP".
I thought they were fro under powered outboard?
Should I even look at these??
