Have a look here for all you need to know. If you going to make it a short shaft motor you will need a short drive shaft but I'm thinking you already know that. Best of luck. Rick.

Include the lower shift rod and water tube in your plans.....your existing water tube can probably be modified (shortened) to suit though.

If you are leaving it as a longshaft it will do no harm to apply a bit of sealant to the extension mating faces......really not necessary however.

Didn't think about the drive shaft it has a extension that was not factory put on does that make a difference
How much would the short shaft cost

Cheapest ive seen them new is $172 plus shipping......better at a salvage yard if you dont mind used. Sounds like it might have been a shortshaft at some stage so maybe you dont need one?

I don't have one
Would the extension have came with a drive shaft extension?

Swapover kits used to be available for a price but are now NLA.....both OEM shafts are one piece just different lengths to suit.....everything you need to do the job is still available as seperate items but it would end up being pricey.....i would check out the salvage yards or someone selling a complete non running (cheap) shortshaft.
