I recently purchased a 1980 7.5 hp Mercury. The lower unit lube did not only drip, it actually ran out of the propeller end. I have disassembled the lower unit and everything is in great shape (other than the seals, I think). Howevever, there is only one shim, which is the water pump shim. The others are simply not there. I have the Seloc manual. Should I order new shims and go through the Seloc shimming procedures, or assume the shims are not needed? This is probably a dumb question but I am more familiar with rebuilding OMC lower units and the shims have not been required on those lower units. Thanks.
