I also Have a 1980 "Clinton engine" 7.5 horse Montgomery Ward Sea King. Finaly got it to fire with a new used coil. Looks like it's an air cooled engine and I can't find anywhere on the shaft to check & install gear lube. I took it out in the James river anyway (upstream), the motor ran great but had no propulsion what so ever; wide open i moved maybe two miles an hour, then exactly what I said to my drywall helper happened! It broke at the lower uni; prop just spins freely now and I had to paddle back to the dock about a mile and a half.
Now I need to fix whatever broke loose and still need to know how to check and install gear lube.
Work has been slow but very soon I'l get /try to find the correct repair manuals for my Sea King and my 4.2 hrse Blue Ribbon Champion aswell. Mean time I'd like to go fishing down stream where its impossible to try and paddle home; nonetheless this has all been great fun!
I'll take a photo of this one soon and post it.
