Might as well start off on the right foot since you are a newbie and we want to welcome you aboard. This site sells parts and we jabber on here to find the broken part and hopefully the folks doin the jabbering buy the parts here. So, since it helps pay the rent I suggest you go to the top of the page here and look in the "Boat Parts & Accessories" tab. Inside look for service manuals and get one. You'll be needing it for lots of things and probably as good a money as you'll ever spend. Seloc is the name and you can buy the manual outright or rent time online which is immediate after you slide your card and you are good to go immediately. I used OEM and these and I like these better because they define processes better and have more pictures.
You don't have to buy your parts here but they have a goodly supply of quality parts at a reasonable price. Service after the sale is great too. I buy parts here and have had to use their service in replacing a bow for a Bimini Top that was smashed at the factory somehow......bow was smashed, shipping box was untouched. Had a full replacement in 2 days.
Whether you buy anything or not it doesn't affect your surfing nor the quality of your answers. We're here to help each other but if you aren't familiar with things in the conversation, it sure helps to have a reference source handy so that the info you get makes some kind of sense.
The manual is really a good idea because after you get your ignition problem solved, you will be into your carbs and then your water pump and then timing-carb synchronization, and then shift and throttle linkage, and on and on. I was going to jump right in and attempt to answer your question but I saw you are new to the forum and I am not famliar with your engine. What I may have said may have done more to confuse you than do you any good.
HTH,
Mark
