I bought a rebuild kit for my 1980 80hp 4cyl today from the dealer. And they looked up this kit by my engine serial number.
The kit is 21-30430A13, as shown here.

The problem is my fuel pump does not have the block, spring and cap.
Do I install these parts or just assemble it without the block, spring and cap. With just the clip holding the check valves in as it was when I took it apart?
Is it an upgrade?

Crowleymarine.com does not show that your motor used a spring and cap in the fuel pump. Maybe the kit is for multiple applications, with slightly different fuel pumps.

BTW - the '71 80HP motor fuel pump looked a lot different that yours, yet the kit is supposed to fit it.

I like the cap and spring better because, the spring action shoots the fuel directly through the carbs and into the cylinders under high performance pressure, adds 50 hp while using half the fuel. :)

Seriously though, I've used with, and without in my '76 850. Right now I have the cap and the spring kit in there, last one was the just the diaphragm kit (55278A4), no difference in operation of the motor that I can tell between the two.

Best Regards,
