1980 20hp short shaft

Hi all,

I recently traded and acquired what the guy told me was a 1980 Johnson 20hp short shaft. The model number is J20CRCSA.
It seems to be a de-tuned model from the code but I can’t find any more information on it. Looking to do some repairs but don’t know which parts to order as none of the websites seem to acknowledge that Johnson made a 20hp in 1980. I’m wondering if I should be buying parts for a 25hp since this one was detuned? Looking for a number for a carburetor repair kit!

20, 25, 30, and 35hp share the same powerhead and all other parts, except carb and intake manifold. Yours is a Canadian model.. that’s why you can’t find specific model. 1980 25 parts lookup should be fine.

Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure gaskets, floats and all the rest will be the same as yours in a 25 hp kit. But jets will change sizes. Can you scrounge around for a parts listing for your motor? Sometimes it takes a while to dig them up but I've almost always found one for free somewhere on line. Then you can simply punch the actual part numbers that fit your motor in to Google. Chances are if it's an omc motor the parts cross with a bunch of other models and they will be available. Welcome to the joy of owning a Canadian made model of anything. Just adds some extra fun to it. I just had every gasket to completely rebuild a motor set up to order for 140 bucks shipped in Canadian dollars. Turns out where I found them won't ship to Canada. At a local place I was around 400 bucks and a good chunk of the important seals they couldn't even get. So it's getting a crank seal and a lot of rtv.
