1980/1981 Recoil Starter 91871A1 vs. 76179A1

Hello all!

I'm looking at replacing my recoil starter on my 1980/1981 Mercury 9.8. I believe that the correct recoil starter for this motor is part number 91871A1. However I also have seen pictures of the 76179A1 and I believe that the 91871A1 superseded this part. My question is would the 76179A1 work on my 80/81 9.8? There is a pretty significant price difference that I've found and it looks to me that the starter assembly is essentially the same. Any confirmation would be appreciated!

Mercury loves engine serial numbers, so let's start there. We probably have a dozen of those 7.5/9.8's so may be able to visually compare if any difference really matters.

Start with the serial #.
