I have a 1980 135 HP V4 Evinrude and want to do a water pump job and all the bolts are out but the lower unit wont drop I have the 4 bolts out, the one under the trim tab, and the shift rod is disconnected so I think the drive shaft spline is rusted to the crank. This motor has had allot of salt water us so I think the crank and driveshaft maybe rusted together. Does anyone have any ideas of suggestions on how I might be able to separate the two?

If you can get any seperation at all turn it upside down and liberally spray PB Blaster on the driveshaft - - the aim is to get the PB Blaster to follow the driveshaft down to the crank. Repeat over several days.

I hate to be a pessimist but you may never get the thing apart without breaking something. Been there, done that!
What I would do is approach it from the other end. I would attempt to pull the powerhead by attaching a hoist of some kind to the flywheel and lifting (after removing all of the bolts). You will get more leverage this way.
By the way, the last 135 was made in 1976.

I think you missed a bolt, at least you didn't mention taking it out. There is a 5/8" head bolt right above the prop going up into the mid-section.

Walker sorry forgot to mention the one above the prop. Tried again this weekend still no luck. Solittle ever tried to turn a 135 upside down-- it is still mounted to the boat!! And David18 the powerhead mounting bolts are rusted so badly there is no hope of removing it. I am thinking of tying the lower unit to a tree and pulling on the boat trailer ever so slightly as to not destroy the transom and to maybe give it a little encouragement!!! Oh and its a 115 not a 135

Red boat I have had some bad ideas before but the tree on beats all I ever had. Please don't do this you will not be happy with the results. If the mounting bolts are that rusted they need to come off and be replaced while you still have a shot at it. I would go from the other end like david said. If you didn't miss a bolt and don't want to go from the top then take stillfishing's advice and be patient.

Well the tree idea was just a joke!!! Just venting a little frustration. Patience is a virtue and I am really short of virtue. The hex portion of the mounting bolt heads as I said are rusted beyond removal there is still that washer portion and a rusted nub left. I have tried grabbing them with vice-grips and they cant grab well enough to even try to remove them. I guess I will try solittle's advice just hate to have to pull the motor off the boat for a darn water pump fix.

I know what you are saying. I too have little patience and adult beverages don't help.
