1979 Sea Star can anyone tell me about the stern drive?

this is on a 79 Sea Star with a 350 engine. Its an OMC Stern Drive model #982141 serial # W190665. Can anyone tell me what I need to look for to find parts. The man who owns it said he was told that it broke a shaft and its still torn apart but I couldnt see anything wrong. The only thing I saw was some wear at the rear where everything bolts to the boat, where the motor joins the outer unit.

This is a near original OMC stringer hydro mechanical shift.Parts for the lower shift mechanism are non existant as it only had a four year run before OMC canned the idea.Carefull here but if the deal is right ,upgrades are available,but not cheap.
