Hello,
would anyone be able to help me identify the correct lower unit seal kit for my 1979 Johnson 85HP V4 Model 85TL79R Lower Unit. There is water in it when draining. I had the 2 oil seals replaced at the propeller bearing shaft last year. Also replaced the Vent and Drain screws along with the new nylon washers. But I think is may be coming in on of the top seals now.. When i tilt the engine up, i can see a small amount of fluid coming out of the front of the lower unit right where it connects to the exhaust housing. I'm going to take off the lower unit this weekend and would like to pressure test it to make certain where the leak is coming from. I saw a Sierra kit 18-2692 and a Sierra Kit 18-2623 the gaskets look different in the kits. The 18-2692 is closer to my model's age but the gaskets look different. The 18-2623 looks more like my gaskets according to the diagrams at Marine engine.com Just want to be sure to order the correct kit. Also trying to figure out the best easiest way to build a Pressure Tester for the lower unit. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. This will be my first attempt at replacing the seals/gaskets/orings. I've watched a lot of video and it seems to be a pretty straight foward process. But may need a little help along the way. Thanks so much for your help.
