1979 Johnson 70 HP lower unit

I have a 1979 Johnson 70 hp, my water pump is cracked, how do i get the drive shaft out and in order to replace/repair water pump?

You don't have to remove the driveshaft to change the water pump. The pump housing slides down over the drive shaft from the top.

ok so what is under the plate on the lower unit that the drive shaft attaches to? I pulled the lower unit fill plug and there is a roller bearing lodged in the opening, is there a way to get in there and replace the bearing?

Are you sure what you are seeing is a roller bearing, was there any metal particles in the oil?

The link helps so i know what im looking at. And not 100% sure on the bearing, but it does look like a roller bearing, appr. 1/4" longand thin as a pencil lead maybe .07 mm.

the pinion bearing looks like a roller or needle bearing.
