1st) I can't get it to idel nice it runs to rough when i bring the idel screw down it wants to stall (I just rebuilt to carbs) it almost sounds like every once in a while it is missing like she takes a big breath and thats when it dies mostly but when shes opened up she runs nice....
-------------------BUT-------------------
2nd) lately it will run for a bit and then i can't get her started a local guy that towed me in the other day said something about he had a old johnson 140 that did something simular he said that it was cause by a crack some were when it got hot water would leak in an smother the motor any thought on that??

* also a thought i think this motor has therastats could they cause it to shut down suddenly and not start

3rd) to day after it died it wouldn't start back up i tryed again with start up lever up and it wouldn't go all the way up and it got stuck had to get towed but the warm up lever wouldn't go down

yup you do have thermostats i aske the same about my 79 115 seahorse.

they are on the bottom of the motor closest to the lower cowl with little rubber hoses going into the therm housing. should have three little bolts holding them in there are 2.

if shell idle long enough put her in the water or on the muffs, let it warm up, make sure your pee stream is good. you should see at least a trickle when it gets warm come out of the relief holes (bout the size of your thumb) just below the cowl. and you should be able to put your hand on both heads for 3-4 secs without bein burnt. if you havenet replaced the water pump and therms in a while i would go ahead and change them.

did you use compressed air to blow through all the holes and orifrces?
i use air and a single strand of copper wire along with carb cleaner to clean carbs. im not saying you did it wrong just maybe missed something in the cleaning.

ive also read about the stator getting hot and shutting down but thats something somebody else will have to fill you in on.

good luck.

if or when you do change the water pump put the water hose or comp air to the water pick up tube to make sure you have no blockage.

good luck

#1 Did you do a proper Link & Sync?

#2 Not likely but could be ( see #1 )
#2a Nope. If your overheat horn does not sound it will get hot enough to seize up and stop.

#3 Throttle cable improperly adjusted.

Do yourself a favor, purchase an OEM Service Manual. All your questions are answered in the manual.

better check the compression
then check your spark
link and sinc
all this assuming you took apart the carbs and made sure the jets were clean.
also assuming all fuel connections are good without cracks
and primer bulb stays hard when primed
