Last fall I got a 4hp evinrude outboard, it ran a little rough so I cleaned the carburator and put a new carburator kit in it. Now it seems to run good and it does spit some water out but it dose not seem like that much. My question is how much water should this engine be pumping out? right now it just seems to sputter it out and does not have a solid stream of water shooting out of it!

Is it overheating? Can you put you fingers on cylinder head for 2-3 seconds without getting burned? If you drop some water on the top cylinder does it boil or just sit there? If yes to second question and no to third you may be ok. If you are running on muffs then water may be too cold to open thermostat very much if at all.

I've just ran it in a barrel of water! havent had it on the lake yet they still have about 2feet of ice on them. I'll see if the cylinder heads get hot tomorrow.

If you do not know when the impeller was changed, it's overdue. It's a $20.00/20 minute job.

The spray holes on the back of the mid section get clogged up. You can clear them with a toothpick or straightened out paper clip.
