Hey guys sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to boats and outboards..Anyhow,

I was recently given a boat with an Evinrude 140 the engine started, idled and ran fine even in gear, however sounded like it was running on three cyclinders, I narrowed down the problem to what I thought was a broken wire on a coilpack. I replaced the coilpack with a brand new one however now the engine will start and idle with the starting lever raised however as soon as I lower it the engine now stalls. I've checked the plugs, leads and rest of the coilpacks and everything seems fine.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I may have done and what to try next.

Thankyou.

Sorry guys just to add once I have let it idle with the warm up lever on for a while I can shut the engine off then just warm start it in neutral, however even then when I put it into gear it will die whilst idling however if I give it some throttle the engine will stay running... not sure if that info makes a difference or not.
