I have a 1979 75hp johnson, the problem is sometimes it runs great others it doesn't. It will not idle at real low speed, (no wake zone), sometimes, sometimes it will, and part of the time if you throw the throttle down when you take off it will bogg down and die or slow down and finally take off. The plugs are good, the carbs clean, i've had it in the dealership the last two seasons, only to be told it's fixed. Gas tanks are new, fuel line is new, they did replace the diagphram, and some lines, but it didn't seem to help. It will run great on a waterhose, it won't exhibit any of these symptoms. Only does it when in the water. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome otis44 - lots of info here.

The symptoms you describe point to crud in the carbs. Try a thorough cleaning (of the inside including all the tiny passages) and install a carb kit. Blow out with high compressed air after soaking & cleaning but before you install the kits.

Do you have a fuel filter/water seperator?

A factory manual will be a big help.
