Hi I have a 1979 20 HP Seahorse Model number 20CR79R SN 8054618 (possibly there is a C in front of the 8). A little history I have found out is that this is the same motor as a 1979 25 HP seahorse American model. this one was re branded for Canadian sale and I am told there is some change to bring it down 5 HP. The motor starts and runs fine. I used it last season and worked fine (great considering it was sitting for years before I got it) in the fall I drained the leg and refilled it for winter storage. I have pulled it out today and started it up ran fine took only a couple pulls. I do have a water muffler on it that clamps on to the leg where I assume it pulls water for the water pump. ( looking at the back of the engine...facing the prop.. it would be on the left hand side of the leg a small plate with three small holes held on by two screws when you take off the two screws its kind of a U shaped hole). From what I heard this engine does not pee water out to indicate that its pumping water to cool it down. So that brings me to my question... How do I know that it is working and can I test it before I take it out on the water this season?

Any help on this would be great and much appreciated THANK YOU!

Is the motor getting hot? You can always feel around the powerhead. Remeber a general rule of thumb is to replace your impeller every 2 years. If you can't remember when you replaced it, replace it.

Thanks, I have no idea when it was replaced as I bought it last year, used it for the year. changed the leg oil and parked it for winter.... so i do no know when anything other then spark plugs have been changed on it, which I changed last year before I took it out on the water. Is there anything else I should change, other then the impeller? And is there anywhere to find a guide or manual I am mechanically inclined but know very little when it comes to boat motors. Thanks

Ok so apparently I was wrong (really wish I had a manual for this motor) Where I thought it sucked water in, I was wrong. I stuck it in a barrel of water today and fired it up to make sure I was not missing something. and after about 30 seconds it starting peeing out the top and engine ran cool. I am sure it will still need a impeller change this season for sure. since I do not know when it was last done. Thanks for the info.
