I have a 140tl79r johnson outbaord. I had to replace the timer base and when I did it through the timing way off. It is like the advancing and retarding works backwards now. I installed the new timer base in the same manner that the old one was. The old timer worked the timing correctly but one coil would not fire. All coils are firing now just I can not set the timing. The key way for the flywheel is fine as I have checked it twice already. I don't know where to go with this problem.

see timing here, very simple process. make sure you are on # 1 spark plug.

I am pretty sure I am following the timing process correctly because before the old timer base went bad I had set the idle timing to 3 degrees to get my idle rpm's correct. The timer base that I ordered is a cdi 133-3376.

The timer base was bad from the factory. I sent it back to iboats and they replaced it for me. I installed the new one today and the motor is running flawlessly.
