1979 115hp cable adjustment

Are there any websites or manuals that will give me more detail on how to adjust my throttle cable. I don't have enough power in forward and I have way to much power in reverse. Assuming thats a cable adjustment. I do have the seloc manual. I have alot of play going forward and no play in reverse. Any ideas ?

I presume you have a MerControl? If not, that could be the issue,as other controls not designed for Mercs may not have enough travel. Remove the wrap cowl. Remove the top cowl. Set the throttle handle to neutral. The throttle cable should be pushing the throttle closed with a bit of preload. Now put throttle in forward and push to WOT. Look at carbs. Are they open nearly to their stops? Is the distributor hitting max spark advance set screw? If not, you likely need to do whole link and synch.
