I have adjusted the timing, replaced spark plugs cleaned and inspected the carbs and the engine seems to run fine when out of water however when I spend an hour to put it in the water, I notice a sharp buck almost like a sharp miss when engaged or under load. This seems to be very consistant like every 5 or 6 sec. and increases with engine rpm. I did notice that #1 plug wire had a break and arced so like MC Giver I wrapped it with electrical tape and I didn't notice the arc but it still bucks. Does this seem like it could still be a plug wire or maybe something else because I am going both broke and batty trying to solve this issue. I appriciate any suggestions for I am new to this forum....

Re: 1979 115 HP Chrysler outboard misfire

Welcome to iboats.

Sounds to me more like the shift cogs are coming momentarily disengaged and reengaged, usually as a result of worn mating surfaces between the shifter and forward gear. Might not be a misfire at all, but a sudden, momentary, and boat jarring slip in the gearcase.
