I have a 1978 50 hp Mercury outboard on a 16 ft starcraft Aluminum boat.
I have rebuilt carbs, rebuilt fuel pumps, new fuel lines and new tank.
This boat starts and runs like a top except when you go wot.
The boat will go 25 mph no problem but when it gets to 30 or wot it starts to sputter until you back off the throttle. It has good spark.
I got two different potential solutions. from two different marinas
1. Install a small electric fuel pump.
2. Even though my tank is new he e10 in he fuel has caused the hose inside the tank to swell and allow too much air into the carb which at wot the engine is not getting enough fuel causing the sputter.
In either case it seems the motor is not getting enough fuel at wot.
I am a newbie, should i just be happy with 25mph?
Should this motor run perfect at wot?
What do you guys think?
Thanks
