Like the title says, the last third or so approaching WOT requires a lot of extra push to get there. Doesn't SEEM to be the control center so am thinking it's either the cable or something with the linkage in the motor. My question(s) are, is this normal for this setup? and if not, how easy/hard should the internal linkage move with the cable disconnected from the motor. (something I haven't been able to do yet as I can't seem to get a wrench on the mounting nut.

ALSO is there any other control box that would work with motor? I'm just not real happy with the one handle approach. (new or old...)

Thanks,

Kerry

P.S motor is a 1978 Johnson, 85hp with tilt. electrical cable uses red plug/socket.

Is this boat new to you? From what you are describing, it can sometimes be the shift linkage that is out of adjustment. Motor turned off, push the throttle forward while some one slowly turns the prop til it stops.

When you put the motor in gear, the first thing to move is the shift cable, then the throttle will advance.

As you advance the control to the hard point, watch the shift lever on the motor. Does it continue to move? If so, then it is out of adjustment and putting too much tension on the shift linkage.

Ok, boat was new to me last Summer and has has this problem since I got it..

I removed the lower cover on the remote which releases the throttle cable while leaving the shift cable seated. The handle moves freely at that point and the motor shifts. Of course I don't really know if this is a valid test! I'll try your suggestion IF it ever stops raining here!! We are getting pounded in Michigan!
