1978 Johnson 4 horsepower outboard

My motors top connecting rod recently shattered and i have taken the flywheel off, but i cant remove the next piece under the fly wheel. There is a brass ring with three screws under that but i dont know if that holds the piece on.

I think your '78 has the traditional points/coils/condensers igntion - in which case the magneto plate is held on with four screws. Two on the coils and two down low near the points. The four screws form a rectangle...<br />- Scott
