1978 Evinrude 9.9 Restoration

I have a 1978 Evinrude 9.9 and wish to undertake a thorough restoration. My challenge has been finding one or more useful sites for parts. I have located water pumps, fuel pumps, carb rebuild kits and engine paints. Have not been able to locate original or reproduction decals for this engine, gears, bearings and clutches, special tools, etc...<br /><br />Any advice would be much appreciated. <br /><br />Thanks

Hi Louis,<br /> I doubt you'll find any of the classic outboard sources providing decals for something that "new". You may get lucky and find some NOS decals (seem to appear on eBay from time to time), but more than likely you'll have to have them made yourself. If you have originals to work with, have a sign shop make them up in vinyl. Have them make a dozen, then you can sell the extras to help defray the costs. <br />- Scott

Thanks for the help everyone. I did find the paint I wanted at Marineparts.com Placed my order on 9/11/05 at 10pm and recieved it on my doorstep this afternoon. Fantastic service. Also bought a new water pump from them for the same motor.<br /><br />Does anyone have a good source for major engine parts for this motor such as forward/reverse gears, clutch dogs and the like? The above site and others I have found don't offer these major parts below 20 hp engines.<br /><br />Thanks again.

Hi Louis,<br /> Your best bet for "major" parts is probably a Johnrude dealer. Those little 9.9s were around for a long time and there is still a lot available for them. Lots of stuff turns up on eBay as well.<br />- Scott
