1978 Evinrude 55 hp black deposit from powerhead

I bought a boat that had this motor on it and I want to sell it. I'd like to know if that black stuff is something to worry about. If it is I'll just part it out. Thanks, Jeff

followup: I couldn't get it going. I've considered taking these motors apart and selling parts but the time and space involved just doesn't work for me. So I just give 'em away. Tuition. Now I'm down to a boat and 2 old Evinrudes I can devote all my spare time to and enjoy it. Thanks for all the help. Jeff

Did you get rid of the 55 evinrude? I am rebuilding a 77 johnson and looking for a parts motor.
