1978 Evinrude 115 Thermostat housing bolts STUCK

I am unable to remove the 3 bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place. I've been spraying them with penetrating fluid but still unable to loosen. Any input will be greatly appreciated ie: wrench type, position, heat, ANYTHING. Also if I'm unable to loosen them what will be the solution then? Thank You

PB Blaster and heat.
Heat bolt then spray with pb and it will smoke like crazy. Tap on the bolt head with a hammer then try to remove. If you think they are going to break. Grind off the hex head on the bolts. Remove rhe thermostat housing, and there will be short studs left that you can get vise grips or a small pipe wrench on. Heat and PB blast as required. Hope this helps

Welcome Aboard Southporter17 !

I am not familiar with your enging but stuck rusted bolts are just that. I have found that lightly tapping them with a hammer sometimes will shock them and they break free... A 3/8 ratchet should work out.... if the bolt snaps off then it's drill it out and tap the threads out. I know that some of the veteran marine mechanics will give you some input also.

The best thing I found was a Mapp gas torch and a 50:50 mix of ATF and Acetone for penatrating oil. 1/4" drive tools work the best. You may have to drill some holes in the lower pan to get a good straight shot at the bolts but if you do just put some rubber plugs back in them.

I finally decided to sacrifice the thermostat housing, by doing so, I exposed about an inch of bolt shaft to work with. Then lube, heat, and vise-grips. Thanks for the Advice.
