Hopefully someone will be able to help me out. I recently purchased this boat and I took it out last weekend after making a lot of changes to the interior of it and it started up great and ran great until we went to load it and it died. When it died I went to turn it back on and nothing happened. About an hour later I hooked it up to the water hose and it cranked right up and ran great. The next day we took it out again and it ran good but about 3-4 times when I went to crank it nothing happened. Usually after 10-20 minutes it would work again but the last time didn't ever work again. I have bought a new ignition switch because I took a jumper wire and placed it on the hot of the starter and the starter solenoid to by pass the igniton switch and it turned over just fine. I attempted to install the new ignition switch how the old one was but it still isnt working. Im not sure if I matched it up right, but on the old switch there were 3 wires not hooked up to anything? seemed kinda odd to me. Any body know what to do? Maybe someone has a wiring diagram for this motor I could go by? I dont think the previous owner knew to much about wiring because a lot of it was rigged up

Wiggle the shifter, the starter lock out may not be working perfectly and not allowing the power from the key switch to get to the starter relay.

The wires not connected are a black wire that looks to be grounded on the back of my motor, a orange, purple, and blueish grey. I found a blown fuse on a wire coming from the hot of the starter that goes under the carbs I think. I went to replace the fuse and it started to turn the motor so I yanked it back out. I have the ignition switch hooked up but turned off Im not certain I got it all in the right spot since I had to take off the old one to match it up at the store. The key wasn't even in. Can I upload pictures on here? If so I can take a few pics tomorrow

Do you still have the old switch?

There are a number of ignition switches available, they are NOT the same and you must be sure your replacement has the same wires as the old one as different colors do different things.

Does your new switch have the same number and colors as the old switch?

If not it is most likely the wrong switch, using it may cause damage as it may put 12V into a mag ignition and fry components.
