I used some 5/16" ID fuel hose, slit down one side. Run a bead of flexible sealant/cement into the slit and then slide over the bottom lip of the cowling. To make the slit, I set an X-acto knife blade in a bench vice with only about 1/4-inch of the blade showing. I then ran the hose over the blade, feeding it through my hand on one side to keep it aligned.
Worked very well on my 1980 75hp...

Why so much trouble for a good part that is readily available from a dealer?
