1978 150 hp evinrude

just bought this jewel and it runs great.My problem is with the steering.steering wheel not moving,and could not turn motor by hand...so i unhooked steerring rod and now wheel turns and motor turns by hand..not sure what its called but its the rod that runs all the way thru bracket that holds on motor..seems that it seized up.not sure how to go about fixing this.any help would be greatly appreciated...and where can i find free repair manual on this..thanks alot guys

soak it as best you can with a good quality penetrating oil, let it sit at least overnight..but the longer the better, and keep spraying it now and then. if i remember correctly , there should be a 90 degree bend in the rod you mention where it connects to the motor for steering, try turning the rod as opposed to pushing it. if you can get it to spin you should be able to free it up. ( keep spraying penetrating oil and be patient with it!!)

soaked it down several times with PB Blaster and it worked free,,,thanks alot nwcove any links for service manuals

You lucked out with the PB Blaster. Now just keep it lubed.
