I bought a 1977 Sea Ray srv 240 project and plan on using a newer Alpha. Couple questions. The drive I got is a 1.84, and I've heard mixed opinions whether this will work. Can a prop make up for gears? I bought a 14.5x17" stainless. It is a big heavy boat so I heard these gears may be right. Secondly, I plan on buying a 260 LX mercruiser thats blown but has all marine parts for my vortec longblock. It had a Bravo though, so will the bellhousing work with my alpha? More importantly, how about the flywheel and coupler? I have an alpha bellhousing so if only the coupler worked that would be a bonus. Thanks in advance.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...
Everything yer sayin' just Don't add up....

A 1977 Ain't an Alpha 1, it's at best a Model 1....

The 1.84:1 gears will Not work with a 260hp V8...
There ain't a prop big enough to do it...

And, No, a Bravo flywheel cover, 'n coupler will Not work with a Mod.1 drive/ transom assembley...

Re: 1977 srv 240

Sorry, the boat has nothing in it right now, no engine or drive. I bought a late model alpha 1 gen 2 that has the 1.84 ratio from bellhousing back, and I was planning on buying the 260 LX Bravo motor to take the exhaust, intake, cooling, etc off for my vortec longblock. I have the alpha bellhousing so I guess I just need an Alpha specific coupler?
