1977 Sea Ray 351w 235 OMC fuel delivery questions. The motor runs when i spray ether into the carb, but for some reason fuel is not getting to the carb itself. I am suspect of the fuel pump. At this point, I was going to replace it with an electronic one, or get a new mechanical fuel pump, or I can try to fix the one that is on there. I have put gas in the boat and i can see the fuel all the way at the line that connects to the fuel filter, but it does not move forward from that point. Whats my next best step from here and what do you recommend with regards to the fuel pump, (my number one priority being reliability here). Thanks guys.

you disconnected it and cranked the engine ? Is that what youa re saying? I would do that, but put a long hose onto the line and plumb it over the side into a pail so you aren't spraying gas around the bilge.

your exhaust elbow is busted open there. did you know that? not sure you want to run the engine like that.

Ya that's what we did, but gas isn't moving in that hose( from the gas tank to the fuel filter you can see in the 2nd pic on the far left a hose clamp that's where i undid the hose). No pressure anywhere in the fuel lines. Also i have the exhaust elbow off and a new one ordered already. Second picture should show that its off.

Post a link for where you found those old log style elbows. I've seen them for the manifolds themselves but do not recall seeing that the elbows were available. I wonder how yours cracked like that. Not a likely place for freeze damage. That usually happens in the belly of that style mani.

I got mine as a used part for cheap, but you can get then new from here
SIERRA RISER OMC 980617 18-1876 at MarinePowerService.com Also you can just google 980617 riser, I believe Sierra still makes this part, and is the same as part number 908720. You can see the number in the casting of the online photo if you search google images. Hope this helps. Also let me know about that fuel pump if you have any input cuz I'm working on it tmw morning thanks all

Have you tested the line from the tank pickup to the fuel pump? Can you draw gas up from the tank at that point? There are no rebuild kits available for marine fuel pumps but they are not all that expensive. I would not go with electric as that is another layer of complexity.

Thanks for the link on the risor elbow.

Just pulled that exact engine out of my old Sea Ray and built a new one. Been having a hard time finding those risers. The best price I've found so far is a place called Mr Cool. Found them new there for $75, $350 for the manifolds.

That's a better price then I could find thanks for the link. Also I know it's kind of late, but my motor runs perfect now, after priming all the lines she fired right up. There was 0 gas getting to the carb. It's a learning thing for me so thanks for all ur help.

you might try taking the line loose at the carb and sucking the gas up to that point and then see if it pumps, in your fuel tank fitting there is a check valve, it might be stuck.

EDIT: I didn't read your last post, glad you got it going, be sure to check all the gear lub points on the lower unit.

i know this is a bit late but she runs well now...it was as simple as it seemed. Just needed gas to get running in all the lines, had to prime them all by hand ( all lines were sooo dry ). Thanks for help guys
