1977 Mercury 850, Difficulty finding correct trigger

When I look up part diagrams for a replacement trigger there are two options, and straight and curved linkage arm. The trigger that came off my current motor has a curved linkage arm, but upon choosing that option the information that comes up states the curved linkage arm option is for later year models, and the straight linkage arm is for the 76-77 850 motor. I guess my question is should I go with the curved linkage arm even though the information under the part is for later years, or risk it with the straight linkage arm even though it may not articulate properly. The serial number for my motor is 4723195.
