What are the recomened spark plugs for this engine. Thinking of going to electronic ignition also. Any down side to this? Do you have to change the coil if you change to Per Tronix? Is the tiing the same. Does anyone have a manual for this engine that is available in an electronic version. First post, thank you for any help you can provide.

Welcome! The "Adults Only" section at the beginning of this section should have all the info you need, including links to the electronic version of the factory service manual, but I just looked most of this up since I have the same engine so I'll take a crack at it. Point gap is .016, plug gap is .035", and if memory serves me correctly, the plugs are AC Delco R43T or equivalent. I don't remember for sure because I already changed them a couple weeks ago, but everything is in the manual...just takes some digging.

Sorry I can't tell you anything about an electronic ignition though as I have no experience with it, but I'm sure other more knowledgeable members will chime in shortly.

Hope this helps!

Those AC MR43T plugs are so good I put them in my modified street car! First, they are forged, and won't ever rust, next they have the fattest center electrode I've ever seen! :) for a good strong, reliable spark.
