Hey Guys, I'm new here and have enjoyed lurking around! I figured it was time to get involved though. Here's the deal- I just aquired a boat from my father. It is a 1977 stauter-built wooden skiff with a 1977 Merc 402 40 hp motor. He and I used it as our fishing boat when I was just a young lad back in the early 80's, but it has not been run in about 10 years. Well, I pulled the boat out and cleaned it up, and when I removed the cowling from the powerhead it didn't look good. All of the wiring looks brittle and corroded, the hoses are all dry rotted, etc. Not a pretty sight. Now when we last used it 10 years ago it ran like a champ, never missing a beat. What do I need to do with it to get it running again besides the obvious stuff like rebuilding the carb? Should I just replace all the wiring, the hoses, the stator, coils, plugs, everything basically? How much do these parts cost? Also, the motor has the word "Rocket" stamped into the top cylinder casting on the side. What does this mean?? Thanks for the advice!

REDO ALL THE WIRES AND HOSES.
FILE THE POINTS. CHANGE THE LUBE IN THE
LOWER UNIT THEN CHECK IT OUT. JUST PUMP SOME
GAS IN THE CARBS. AND LET IT SAT FOR A WHILE
TAKE THE PLUG OUT AND SPRAY WITH WD40 BEFORE
YOU TRY TO START IT. LETS SAY ABOUT A WEEK.
SHE WELL BE READY TO GO THEN.
GOOD LUCK REX :D ;) :)
