1977 Johnson Trim/Tilt

I need help motor will trim up but not down. The motor makes no sound when you press switch down. But if you wait a few days trim works fine then after couple days stops working again. It is always the down that does not work up always works. I saw where someone else asked and was told it was solenoid but his motor was a 1998 Merc so was not sure if could be same prob for my older motor. Thank you

first of all I would check the ground on the solinoid, it should be on the solinoid mount and run to the negitive post on the battery make sure it's not corroded, then take a test light and make sure you are getting power from the switch to the solinoid, my 1974 Johnson did the same thing except it would go down but not up, found the ground wire was broken put a new one on and it worked like a champ. Do you know where the solenoid is ????<br />I found what looks like a solenoid but there is only one so does it work for both up and down??
