I have just installed a Teleflex Tachometer on my 1977 Johnson outboard and think I installed it properly. To do so, however, I had to disassemble the remote control box to access the wires. There was no plug in for a commercially available wiring harness.

After reassembly, the motor starts just fine but when I try to accelerate by pushing the remote handle forward, the engine kills. I suspect I may have reassembled something incorrectly but have no idea what. Is it possible I miss-aligned the gears that drive the cables which in turn causes a timing problem???

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
