I am installing a tach for a 1977 Johnson 70 HP outboard. This process which required me to disassemble the control box. This was easy, at least I thought it was. It split in two halves and appeared to be in good shape. I then saw a small ball bearing which rooled around in one of the halves. I have determined this bearing to be place on a compression spring and then reassembled. How on earth is this done???

The only thing I can figure out is to continue disassembling the half with the control arm to get better access when reassembling the compression spring/ball bearing mechanism. Am I on the right track?

Also, I am wiring the purple wire in the control box to the ignition terminal on the tach, the gray wire in the control box to the send terminal on the tach, and the ground terminal on the tach to the ground of the control box. Does this seem correct??

Thanks much.

Feltsoles
