Finally got her running, and very smooth. But I do have a couple of questions. Both questions deal with the motor in a barrel at idle. Water level about same as when in the lake.

1) There is exhaust and water mist coming out the back idle relief holes which I assume is normal. There are 2 round holes, about as big around as a pencil, in the front of the exhaust housing located behind the steering bracket pilot shaft and just above it's lower mount to the exhaust housing. At idle, water is pumped out these. Is this normal?

2) As one of the steps in preparation for starting this motor, I removed the thermostat and checked it in a pot on the stove against a dial thermometer. It began to open about 135-137* and was fully open at 145*. After running at idle for about 15 min. I was able to lay fingers on the cylinder head cover with no trouble for as long as I wanted. Is this normal?

Thanks for any responses.

the answer to both questions is yes it is normal for water to come out there and yes it is normal to be able to hold your hand on heads for long periods of time
