Good morning ya'all! My motor is finally running, yea! :D But it still is not running very good. It starts and idles fine, but when I am on the lake and try to throttle up it sputters and dies unless I back off the throttle. I can't even get the boat going fast enough to get the speedometer to move. The carbs have been rebuilt, the timing piece by the stator has been replaced, one of the coils was replaced, and the rectifier and power pack have been replaced. It is almost like maybe the motor isn't getting enough fuel. The smoke goes away when I try to speed up, I realize this is normal, but it goes away at only like 1500-2000 RPM is that about the right RPM for it to go away? And I'm running on a 50:1 gas/oil ratio. Any help you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated.
Wolf

I have a 1978 115hp Evinrude with the same problem. I can't tell you what fixed mine yet because I decided to rebuild the carbs while I had it apart, but the fuel pump that I just rebuilt was in TERRIBLE shape. The diaphram was stretched and distorted and the seals where shot. It would run fine in idle but would not accelerate at all under load unless you choke the engine. Rebuild the fuel pump if you have any doubt. It is cheap and easy.

Ryan Haley

Thanks Ryan,
That's what I was thinking as well. Since it has a new tank, new bulb and line and rebuilt carbs it is the only thing left. I was just wondering if it might be something other than a fuel related problem.

Thanks again,
Wolf

Is there anything else that this might be? that is that I can check! Either way I think I'll rebuild the pump.
