Re: 1977 elec shift omc

Hi
I have been doing research into OMC stuff. (against my better judgement and advice heard hear, I may start a project on a 75 OMC 140) but sterndrive.com has an OMC froum you might find helpfull. I also found a great article on how to adjust electric drives, apparently adjustment of idle speed and shift point is CRUCIAL to elecrtic shift operating smoothly. I am sorry but I can't find the site right now but will look for it a post a reply as soon as I can find it again.
Peter

I would definitely consult an expert b4 you run it again. OMC Electric Shift has heavy coil springs that rap around a cone(kinda like a slinky) that engage forward and reverse. There is a little tail at the bottom that can break off, under certain conditions, and you will get towed in. I bought one new in 1975, had continous trouble that they could never remedy. In 1978 I installed the new cable shift 800 series and have had no trouble since.
