Hi,
I'm new to the outboard motor world and thanks to a "new" pontoon in the family I get to learn with a this motor. I've taken it out once and it ran rough but started fairly easy. I cut the engine and ended up getting stranded because it wouldn't restart. I suspect that the engine was flooded but I killed the battery before we could get it started. Now I have a new battery and I'm trying to check things out before making a 2nd trip.

I have a question on the choke behavior. I've looked at the diagrams that I can find but haven't found one with a detailed enough picture or video to answer it. The motor has an electric choke that's activated by pushing in the ignition key. When I press the key in, the choke activates, but when I release the choke, the lever stays in the lower, choke position. The solenoid returns to the correct position. What should reset the choke? Is there a spring missing that would keep the choke disengaged unless the solenoid is engaged? If so, can you tell me where it's connected? On the manual choke lever, there is a spring that's connected to the lever on one end and connected to nothing on the other. I can't see how it could connect to the small electric choke lever, but that could be the problem. So I also need to know how that spring is suppose to be connected.

Thanks in advance for your help!

yes the choke solenoid should have a visible spring on it.

The wire spring on the manual choke doesn't connect to anything. It acts like a finger to close the choke in "choke-on" position and holds it open in "choke-off" position. It does nothing in center "automatic" position.

The electric choke solenoid was changed slightly that year and I don't remember the exact details. But I think that air flow through the carburetor is what opens it when not activated. You should be able to figure it out by examining it. Yes. there is a spring under the plunger to push it up when not activated.
