We have to install one of the following motors on our boat.<br /><br />OPTION 1: A 1977 85 Hp Evinrude that runs well but that we know very little about (hours etc)<br /><br />OPTION 2: A 1990 120 HP Force with that we have had since new that runs well and has low hours.<br /><br />The age old question: "Young and Powerful" or "Old and Proven"<br /><br />Thanks for your opinions.

I'd have to vote for the Force, if you've owned it since new, and know it has been maintained properly. It's 13 years newer than the OMC and won't have to work as hard to push your boat.

I have a 1977 85hp evinrude on a16ft skeeter(paid 500 cash for combo) runs like a raped ape. good compession on all 4 cylinders, cranks quick, charges correctly, shifts smooth, idles perfect. Had boat for 2 yrs, out in it 3 times a week. I can get 54mph out of her with 17 pitch prop at max rpms NO PROBLEMS YET of coarse i regularly maintain engine properly and run a mix of 3:1

sell the Force (if you can ) while it still runs and buy a OMC, Merc, or Yammy, 115..that is what I would do. If the 85 is yours already, run the force until it breaks then put the 85 on.
