looking at a 1977 140 horse that is much older than my 1992 90 horse but i am looking for more power. will this engine give me much more top end than my 90 horse crossflow? would it be worth the price of 600.00 i know the older the engine the power was rated at the power head and newer was rated at the prop. just dont want to buy it if the top end would not componsate the price.
what do you guys think?

1977 140 = 1992 115hp (crossflow), and 1977 115 = 1992 90hp...roughly. The 140 will have a little more top end, but not enough to make a difference. Personally, I think the 1986+ 88/90hps have the best powerband of any of the crossflows.

I'd mess with your prop pitch and transom height first and/or buy a 120/140 looper.
